8 Bible Verses for Anxiety

8 bible verses to ease anxiety and calm your mind

Anxiety seems to be a common issue for many people. Pre-pandemic and even more so mid and post-pandemic. Anxiety can come in various forms for many of us, including myself. One of the ways that I deal with and work through my anxiety is to turn to Scripture for help. I have compiled a list of my 8 Favorite Scripture Verses to help with Anxiety.

Let’s take a look and dig into each of these 8 Bible Verses for Anxiety

1. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

What this verse means to me is that no matter what is going on in my life, I can get through it, I can do it, because as a believer I have Christ with me and He will strengthen me. He will give me the strength that I need to make it through whatever difficulty I am currently in.

2. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us the Spirit of Fear, but of Power and of Love and of a Sound Mind.

This is a verse I have repeated and recited to myself over and over again during some of my darkest times while dealing with my anxiety. It is a proclamation, a declaration that God has not given this fear that I have (which is ultimately what anxiety is.) That God has given me a sound mind. A clean and clear mind. I repeat it to myself and I say it back to God.

2 timothy 1:7 For god has not given you the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

3. Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect PEACE whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts You.

I see this verse as one that I can speak directly to God and a reminder to myself that if I keep my focus on God and not my problems He will keep me in His perfect peace. A peace that seems unreasonable given whatever circumstances I am in.

4. Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me and DELIVERED me from all of my fears.

The Psalmist is telling us that when he sought God, God heard him, and delivered him from his fears. This is a reminder to us that the Lord can do the same for us. If we cry out and seek Him, He can give us peace.

5. Psalm 107:6 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.

Similar to the one prior, this verse shows us that when we call out to God, He is there for us. He will eventually remove the distress we are in. This verse gives me comfort when I am going through a rough time. Especially dealing with anxiety. It may feel like this will go on forever. For example, a panic or anxiety attack. If I have one, this reminds me that I won’t be in it for long, God will get me out of this distress.

6. Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you, Be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

I am reminded that God is with me! No matter what is troubling me, He is there and He is my God. He will give me the strength to fight the good fight. He will hold me up when I am weak.

7. Jeremiah 29:1 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you & not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.

I love this verse because it tells us that God has plans for us! Plans of goodness for our future. I recall this verse when I am “going through it” and am having a hard time finding anything good to look forward to in the future.

8. 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

This is a verse that I really prefer to read in context. I encourage you to read 1 Peter 5:6-10 for the full impact. But essentially, we are reminded to humble ourselves before God and give Him all of our worries, because He loves and cares for us. In due season, He will raise us up. Get us through it all.

These are just a sampling of the many verses that talk about anxiety, fear and peace. I hope to encourage you to continue (or begin) to trust in God.

Life is never going to be perfect and we certainly are not, but for me, I don’t know how I would have ever made it through the most difficult times in my life it if weren’t for my faith in Him.

His words are written in the bible for you to read and draw strength and encouragement from. I pray for peace for you as you read this.
