When It Rains, It Pours
So today was a trying day, physically and mentally. We have had some heavy rains for several days and things are just soaking wet. Have had flash floods all around town and some water in our basement. Part of our basement is unfinished, the other part is finished. So with wet stuff, wet floors and a mess to try and clean up for the third day in a row, I am frustrated and tired to say the least.
This week we have also had some personal family health issues, a death in the family, other family members struggling with mental health concerns…and to top it all off we had ants. Yep, ants in the house. Not just a few. I guess the with all the rain they wanted to go somewhere dry. I don’t know. So yeah. Things haven’t been pleasant the last few days. I have gotten a bit snippy with my husband and probably my kids too. I am physically tired and getting there mentally as well.
With all that being said, I am grateful. Grateful that we didn’t have major flooding at our house or on our street. Some folks in nearby streets weren’t so lucky. Cars underwater, impassable streets, flooded basements, etc. While my troubles were not fun by any stretch, but I am grateful that my family is safe, we still have most of our possessions still intact. Grateful that I have wi-fi and cable service. Most importantly, grateful for life.
Challenges
This life can surely be a challenge. And as they say, when it rains, it pours. Sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally. During those struggles, I try to keep in mind all of the positive things that I still have my life. Family, home and most of all my God. He is here with me every moment. I just need to acknowledge Him. But honestly, I get so wrapped up in my world, I forget to. But I am taking the time right now to thank Him and be grateful for all the many blessings and lessons in my life.
Have you had any challenges in life where you were able to stop and thank God for what is good? Be grateful in spite of the troubles or pain? It can be hard. We first want to complain and say, Why? In reality, that is life. There are ups and downs for all of us. But if we can try to keep HIM in our hearts and minds during these times and remember what we have to be grateful for, we can use these situations to draw closer to Him.
